Steve Vanderhoek is a name synonymous with the North Shore. Having grown up in North Vancouver’s Lynn Valley and inspired by earlier Shore legends such as Wade Simmons, Andrew Shandro and Thomas Vanderham, Steve has carved out his own veritable niche of freeriding. Namely, crazy-ass stunts involving steep, exposed rock slabs and step-down drops that would make any professional freerider question their career decisions.
We stopped by Lucky’s Bar, Beer Retreat & Wellness Centre (aka Steve’s garage) for a rundown on the Devinci Spartan he prefers for his long days of sending it. It would have been a smooth film shoot if it wasn’t for those meddling neighborhood kids. Plus, we had to fit in a mandatory intermission so Steve could walk his cat. But hey, we got there.
