Wheels were a bit heavier than claimed (1555g) coming in at 1597g (HG hub version, 15x110 front, 12x148 rear). Nonetheless, still a very light wheelset with a decent internal width of 26mm. Seems to be stiff and the weight reduction vs a set of aluminum ARC30s has been awesome on the climbs! The Vault hubs are a touch loud, but the high number of engagement points (120) is great for timing pedals strokes through rock gardens and over obstacles. Oh - and thank you!!!! Race Face for making these very stealth looking! Nothing worse that overly "graphic'd" wheels IMO.
After riding the British Columbia Bike Race (BCBR) in 2018, then seeing these wheels on top finishers in BCBR 2019, I had to get a set of the Next SL wheels for my "TrailCountry" build. What is that? Take a 2019 Rocky Mountain Instinct C70 with 140/140mm travel and swap in a set of Next SL wheels and a Next R 35mm riser bar and you have 20mm more travel than the average "DownCountry" set up. Trail Bike with XC capabilities, not a true XC race machine, but great for XC that I ride and can still take on the BC XC races that cross into trail / enduro territory up in Squamish BC or the North Shore BC.
The Next SL 26 internal rims set up by hand and sealed instantly with Maxxis Forekaster 29x2.35 EXO; easiest tubeless set up to date and I swap out tires all the time depending on the weather and ride location. Compared to the stock alloy RaceFace AR 27.5 internal stock rims (also a great set of trail wheels), the Next SL wheelset are around 1lb (454 grams) or more lighter and this definitely shows when riding as the rotation mass is less and the front end is easier to lift over terrain. The Vault hub engagement is instant and responsive with the pawl buzz noticeable but not too loud, sounds like a Murder Hornet tearing through the trails.
The 2 year warranty period is nice; however, some manufacturers have longer and even lifetime warranty. This might be the only thing to point out for review.
What's next? Will swap out the dropper post for a Next SL carbon post for a "TrailCountry XCO" summer XC setup.
Highly recommend the Next SL wheels and Next R 35 bars. Cheers and safe riding.
Very impressed with these wheels so far.
Bought them for a full sus XC race bike to replace a lighter but narrower set of wheels with a lower spoke count. The wheels weighed in at 1580g including rim tape & valves, so almost exactly the published weight. Tires mounted up very easily, beads snapped into place with no drama @ less than 40PSI and held pressure overnight with no sealant.
The 26mm ID rims give a very nice profile to the 2.3 front, 2.2 rear tires I generally use, good volume but not too squared off. The Vault hubs are really nice, very quick engagement, smooth, free rolling with a discrete buzz when coasting that doesn’t sound like a swarm of angry bees coming down the trail.
I cant really speak as to durability as I only have a couple of hundred kilometres on them so far, mostly on gravel as we’re having a very late spring & the trails here are still snow covered, but they certainly give the impression of solid, stiff & relatively lightweight wheels that spin up easily, roll really well and seem to track well in the little bit of rough stuff I’ve done so far.
They are perhaps a little heavy for such a low profile rim design but I guess thats the trade off to be a bit more capable on the gnarly side of things and I’m good with that. The one size fits all spokes with included spares are a real bonus too.
My only gripes are that the optional torque caps for the front wheel dont come in the box (I know, Fox rocks, but still...) and the stick on decals are pretty cheesy for a top of the line wheelset. These are very minor points that do not affect performance, so the the wheels still get the full 5 stars from me.
